Principal / Architect / Construction Project Manager

Douglas Ely is the owner and founder of DSE architecture, inc. (DSEA), which was established in January 1999. Mr. Ely has over twenty-two years of experience in architectural design, needs analysis, quality assurance review and construction project management, while developing a reputation for excellence and attention to detail. The consistently high degree of personal service provided by DSE architecture, inc. has created a special rapport between the firm and clients.

Mr. Ely is a Southern California native and makes his home in Orange. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 1981 where he graduated with the award for the top senior for service, leadership, and attitude. Mr. Ely has been licensed as an architect in the State of California since 1984.

Mr. Ely’s experience consists of a wide variety of project types including child care facilities, athletic facilities, police facilities, institutional, educational, health care, commercial office, retail, parking facilities, industrial, high and low density residential, congregate care, and historic preservation.


Sr. Project Manager/Building Information Modeling (BIM)/CAD Manager

Greg is the Senior Project manager for DSE architecture, inc. and also is the technology expert that keeps DSEA at the forefront of technology in architecture. Greg has over 15 years experience in architecture and project management including experience in educational projects and residential architecture working with such builders at K.Hovnanian, S&S, and Pardee. Greg oversees all aspects of projects and leads the team responsible for architectural documents at DSEA under the supervision of Douglas Ely, Principal-In-Charge. His field experience is equally extensive and he has been the construction observation representative for many projects.

Greg has been thoroughly trained in the area of BIM (Building Information Modeling) and has been using BIM software to produce architectural drawings for over 8 years. He has been an assistant instructor of BIM for Digital Vision Automation’s training program and has recently been requested to join the staff of Golden West College to teach BIM for their architectural program. Greg has served on the Golden West College Architectural Advisory Committee for over 4 years.

As a former Partner and Chief Information Technology Officer for Knitter and Associates, Greg lead the way to many technological advancements for Knitter and Associates CAD/BIM system including advancing BIM in the their practice as well as enhancing delivering methods of architectural drawings and exhibits.


Architect / Sr. CAD Documentation / Building Information Modeling

Joel Freeson Carico is an Architect with DSE architecture, inc. and is a licensed architect in the State of California. He has over 28 years of experience in the planning, design, construction documentation and construction administration of a large variety of project types including educational, commercial, residential, military, and historic restoration and renovation.

Mr. Carico is a senior level CAD documentation expert and a Building Information Modeling specialist. He has experience in monitoring all aspects of a project that can be integrated into a campus system to track building components including equipment and furniture. Mr. Carico recently completed an existing conditions recordation project with Orange Coast College in which he prepared CAD files for all existing campus buildings for use by facilities management. He received an A.A. from Los Angeles Pierce Community College and a Bachelors of Architecture from California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo.


Job Captain/CAD Documentation

Matthew is a graduate of University of California Berkley with a Bachelor in Arts for Architecture and is a current candidate for architectural licensing. Matt has over 9 years experience in architecture which covers both residential and commercial work. Matthew is highly trained in BIM as well as architectural graphics. As a job captain, he provides CAD documentation services for architectural documents at DSEA under the supervision of Greg Nutt, Assoc. AIA.

His experience includes field documentation, presentation graphics, construction documents and 3D modeling.
