Delhi Head Start at the Delhi Community Center
Remodel of an existing community center in Santa Ana for use by Orange County Head Start, Inc. The project included the remodel of approximately 6,000sf, and the conversion of existing A-2, A-3 and B occupancies to a group E occupancy with a development of three (3) classrooms, an administrative office area, staff lounge, children’s toilets, storage, and miscellaneous support spaces for a center suitable for 120 children. The project also included the development of a playground for the children.
DSEA worked extensively with the City of Santa Ana for agency approvals on this project. The project was designed to meet state licensing requirements with the State of California Title 24 for Childcare Facilities.
Orange Coast College Costa Mesa, CA
Harry & Grace Steele Children's Center
Doug Ely was the Project Architect while employed at Taylor & Associates Architects for the Children’s Center located on the south portion of the Orange Coast College campus. Mr. Ely designed the facility, managed the production of construction documents, and provided construction phase administration services on the project. The facility is a 12,500sf childcare facility licensed for 120 children with Infant, Toddler, Young Preschool, Preschool and After School Care Classrooms, a full service kitchen, administrative areas, laundry room, and a playground with sandboxes, meandering tricycle paths, shade structures, covered eating area, animal pens, bridges, and water play areas.

Architectural design and project management services for a 7,500sf modular daycare facility at Seacliff Village Shopping Center. The facility is comprised of 8 modular buildings arranged in a staggered shape with an upgraded floor system. It is licensed for 84 children with a playground including sandboxes, patio area for outdoor learning, landscaping for active play areas, etc. The design was comprised of architectural facades to eliminate the modular appearance and the integration of the design into the context of a recently remodeled shopping center.

First Presbyterian Church Orange, CA
Infant Care Center
This project included the remodel of an existing YMCA building for an infant care center for the First Presbyterian Church of Orange. The project included the design of an adjoining playground, site structures, water features, meandering tricycle path, etc. The project was for a non-profit group that provides care for infants of unwed mothers that are supported by Casa Teresa in Orange.
